What is EN149 CE certified FFP2 Mask?

The mask with the CE certification mark is a disposable mask approved by the European Economic Area for safety, health and environmental protection standards. Just like NIOSH classifies respirators as N95, N99 or N100 based on their efficiency levels, CE classifies their masks as FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3. 

The European standard EN 149 defines the following "filter mask" categories:

FFP1 filters at least 80% of particles;

FFP2 Dust Mask filters at least 94% of particles;

FFP3 filters at least 99% of particles.

Among them, FFP3 has the best protection performance, while FFP1 has the lowest protection performance. The liquid particle protection filter material is divided into two levels: FFP2 and FFP3. The protection performance of FFP3 is higher than that of FFP2.

The EN 149 standard for dust masks indicates that they can be dust-proof, anti-fog or anti-fiber, and the filters are tested to determine if they are working properly (filter penetration, also known as efficiency). Edge leakage, breathing resistance and absorption capacity were also tested. 

Respirators that meet the requirements of EN149:2001 are designed to prevent solids, water-based aerosols and oil-based aerosols. The particulate protection filter material is divided into solid particle protection and liquid particle protection, which are tested and graded by NaCL (sodium chloride) and DOP (paraffin oil) aerosols respectively. 

Qualified solid particle protection filter materials are classified into P1 (FFP1), P2 (FFP2) and P3 (FFP3) according to the tested particle penetration rate. Among them, P3 has the best protection performance and P1 has the lowest protection performance. The liquid particle protection filter material is divided into two levels, P2 and P3, and the protection performance of P3 is higher than that of P2.
