What does a booster shot mean?

The booster shot refers to the replenishment of the vaccine based on the neutralization ability of the antibody to maintain the body's immunity to the virus.

Yin Weidong, chairman of Sinovsk Biotech, said antibodies can be raised tenfold by a third dose after two inactivated vaccinations.

Is COVID-19 booster shot necessary?

Shao Yiming, a member of the vaccine R&d Team of the Research And Development Group, said: "We have been using vaccines for about half a year. All these data are in the process of collection and analysis. All the vaccine manufacturers, including the immunization planning departments of each country, are studying these data.

Scientific decisions are made based on data on when booster doses are needed following immunization procedures.

However, no matter which kind of vaccine, it is impossible to achieve 100 percent of the epidemic prevention effect, does not mean that the vaccine is completely safe.

So do not assume that it is impossible to contract the Novel Coronavirus virus if you have been vaccinated against COVID-19. It is important to take good personal protection in normal times, wear mask outside ,  otherwise there is a possibility of contracting the novel Coronavirus virus.

In addition, two doses of the inactivated vaccine are needed to improve the efficacy of the vaccine. If only one dose is given, the efficacy of the vaccine may be less than 30 percent. Moreover, it takes a certain amount of time to develop antibodies after vaccination, so do not assume that vaccination is safe.

It is also possible that like other respiratory diseases, such as influenza, we will need to strengthen each year, depending on the analysis of our final data.
